I’ve had two weeks to put pen to paper on my annual goals and I’ve finally finished.

I’m now ready and more determined than ever to achieve these goals!!

This year is going to be a big year!

produce-more-than-consume

Do you read about things but never actually do them?

I find myself spending hours reading about the things I want to do but then at the end of the day, I DON’T DO THEM!

For example, I’ve been reading the blog Afford Anything, am a member of Bigger Pockets, have read Rich Dad Poor Dad, watched hundreds of episodes of Fix It or Flip It, Fixer Upper, Property Brothers, you name it,  but I HAVE YET TO INVEST IN REAL ESTATE MYSELF!

I’ve been googling fitness competitions, following fitness instagram celebrities, am currently engaged to a fitness professional but I HAVE YET TO GET IN KILLER SHAPE MYSELF!

It’s not enough to read for hours about other people achieving their dreams. I want to achieve my own dreams!

This year, I am going to make sure that 1) I actually do the things I read about and 2) anytime I spend hours consuming information, I spend as much or more time, producing!

Consuming for me means reading blogs, watching TV, reading books, and listening to podcasts.

Producing for me means blogging, investing in real-estate, starting side hustles, etc.

I think this goal is very achievable and will be a huge turnaround point in my life.

spend-more-time-outdoors

Are you reminded of how much you enjoy the outdoors (when outdoors)?

I live in one of the most beautiful places in the country. Every time I go for a hike or do something outdoors I say to myself, “Wow this is pretty awesome! Why don’t I do this more often?”

For some reason though, I don’t spend as much time outdoors as I would like. I get caught up with weekend plans, travel, and general laziness.

This year, I am going to make a concerted effort to spend more time outdoors.

I am lucky to have outdoorsy friends, access to national parks, hiking, skiing, camping, and an awesome dog to take with me.

I bought the National Parks Pass to help facilitate that goal.  The $80 for the pass is well spent in my mind.

My goal is to do AT LEAST one outdoor activity each weekend.

I look forward to the awesome memories I will make and the natural beauty that I will see this year!

workout-goals

Do you follow #Fitstagram people but you’re not fit?

I follow all of these fit people on Instagram and I’m always planning to get fit myself BUT it hasn’t happened yet!

This is the year where I take my health into my own hands and get fit.

Aesthetics is one reason to get fit but my health is my real motivating factor. I wrote in an earlier post about how work stress killed my motivation to workout. I’m now switching it around this year so that stress IS my motivation to workout.

I also need to set a fitness goal for myself and I have decided to compete in a fitness competition by year-end.

Competing in a fitness competition is a lofty goal for me since I need to build 15lbs or so of muscle in a year but I know I can do it.

I have the motivation and the resources to do so!

Time to WORK ON MY GAINS!! 😉

cook-every-night

Do you want to cook every night like Giada but you don’t?

I get lazy during the week with my food. Sometimes I just throw some meat in a pan, cook some pasta, and call it a meal. It’s not.

I really want to make an effort this year to learn how to cook.

Cooking seems to require more patience and time than I am willing to spend but this year, I am going to make it a priority.

I have a slow cooker which seems to make cooking 100x easier, so that is where I’ll start. Then I hope to branch out to more complicated dishes.

My goal is to cook a real meal 3x a week.

mind-the-gap

Lastly, do you have financial goals that you haven’t achieved?

I have read many personal finance blogs, debt blogs, and real-estate blogs but I haven’t achieved the financial success that I want to achieve.

My salary has gone WAY UP in the past 5 years (It’s now 4 and a half times more than what I made one year out of college) but I haven’t kept nearly enough of it.

Instead my money has went to my home, my food, my car, travel, my dog, clothes, etc.

If I want to achieve my financial goals, I need to start with MINDING THE GAP.

Some bloggers use this term to describe the difference between what you spend and what you save.

It really is simple.  Make money and then spend much less of it.

My goal is to save 50% of my income this year.  I really want to save MUCH MORE than 50% (and know I need to save at least 70% to achieve my early retirement goals) but I am trying to start out with a manageable number and have some debt to payoff first.

I also want to increase my income through the following methods:

  1.  Buy a real estate property with at least $200/month cash flow per unit.
  2.  Earn $500 per month blogging.

I know I can achieve these goals if I go back to goal #1, produce more than I consume.

It's not enough to want to change; you've got to take action. These are the 5 steps I'm taking to improve my life this year. #goals #selfimprovement #personaldevelopment

Readers, do you find you produce more than you consume?  What are your goals?

    Great list of goals!

You will find that as you increase your income the savings side of the equations tends to work itself out and increase naturally. Too many people focus way too much energy on cutting expenses which have a natural floor.

Where the income side of the equation is limitless.

    Go crush 2016!
