Year over year, Etsy continues to grow its marketplace and the people it serves. It’s popular because it offers a way for people worldwide to support small businesses and artists that they wouldn’t find in big box stores or on mega online retailers.

If you’ve ever looked at Etsy and said to yourself, “I can do that,” you’re right, you can! You just need to find the right niche.

If you already have an idea of what you want to do for your Etsy shop, check out this previous post, How to Sell on Etsy.

However, if you still need an idea for your Etsy store, keep reading for some shop ideas that are sure to inspire.

Serving Trays

With the uptick in outdoor gatherings and dining because of COVID, Etsy has seen increased searches for serving trays and outdoor trays. “Becoming a key item for outdoor dining, trays offer the flexibility and portability necessary for eating or drinking outside,” writes Etsy Marketing Insights. If you have an eye for hosting, this shop could be for you.

Bath Products

Bath bombs and bath salts aren’t just great self-care items; they also make great gifts. Homemade bath bombs are all the rage on Etsy. Mix some of your favorite scents, and then open up shop.

Custom Wedding Gifts

Plenty of brides turn to Etsy when it comes to finding gifts for the bridal party, especially if they’re looking for customized gifts. If you have the ability to customize items, then this shop could be a winner.

Printables

One of the top ideas on our list is printables. Printables are one of the easiest passive income items you can sell on Etsy because once they’re uploaded, there’s not much else you have to do. Printables include everything from party games to wedding invitations to checklists and planners.

How do I know selling printables works? Millennial Boss has made thousands of dollars doing just that. If you would like the details, check out this free ebook that will teach you how to get started selling printables on Etsy.

Pet Supplies

Pet parents are always looking for cute new things for their best buds, so why not help them out? Consider creating a store with personalized food dishes, blankets, or leashes. You could also create a seasonal store filled with holiday gifts for your favorite pet.

Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are simple to make and always in demand. You can make cute bows for little girls or barrettes. Or make scrunchies that anyone can use. The options are endless.

Notebooks and Journals

There’s nothing better than writing down your thoughts and dreams in a beautiful, leather-bound notebook or journal. While many things have gone digital in the 21st century, notebooks and journals have not. People still visit Etsy daily to find one that speaks to them.

Baby Shower Supplies

If babies are more of your thing, then think about creating a baby shower supply shop. You can create diaper cakes or cute baby shower gifts. Decorations are also a must. A baby shower supply shop gives you plenty of opportunities to flex your creative muscles.

Homemade Wreaths

Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas; they can also be year-round. If you’re crafty, create holiday wreaths for all the seasons. You can make an Easter wreath for the spring and a 4th of July wreath for the summer. Creating wreaths can lead to a solid, year-round business.

Mugs

They seem simple, but they’re also in high demand. Latasha at Arts and Budgets says, “From my research, mugs also do very well on Etsy and are one of the best things to sell on Etsy. You can also customize the mug or cups for even more sales on the platform.”

Jewelry and Craft Supplies

Sometimes you’re more entrepreneurial than artistic. In that case, why not supply the artists? Items like antique charms, hooks, claws, and beads used in jewelry making are hot sellers on Etsy. You can always find some cute trinkets to sell.

Embroidery

The Pay at Home Parent says some services sell well on Etsy, including skilled services like embroidery. If you’re skilled with a sewing needle and you’re willing to outsource your services, this may be the shop for you.

Digital Art

If you have an eye for design, then digital art may be a good product for your new Etsy shop. With digital art, you don’t need to know how to draw; you just need to know how to make something beautiful.

Wedding Supplies

Sometimes brides want something a little different for their weddings. In those instances, they scour Etsy for something original. If you have an eye for party planning, consider a wedding supplies shop. You can offer guest gifts, guestbooks, wedding signs, and more.

Personalized Gifts

If you have a skill set based on etching or silk screening, then personalized gifts may be the theme for your new Etsy shop. People are always looking for original items that they can get personalized for the ones they love.

Fonts

This one is a little off the beaten path, but This Work From Home Life suggests creating unique fonts to sell on Etsy. If you know how to create beautiful lettering, this shop may be for you.

Etsy is the go-to spot for handmade items, especially stunning designs in wood. If you know your way around a lathe, a table saw, and a rotary tool, then Etsy can be where you turn that hobby into a business.

Classroom Needs

Many moms and dads have turned to Etsy for classroom solutions in the time of COVID. Etsy Marketplace Insights suggests thinking about tools for practicing social distance.

Handmade Clay Items

Fire up the kiln and take a seat at that potter’s wheel; handmade clay items are trendy on Etsy in part because they’re usually original designs. Use Etsy to parlay your clay throwing skills into something more than a hobby.

Hand Knitted Items

Many knitters and crocheters have run out of friends to gift their creations to, and that’s where Etsy comes in. Find something to do with all those pieces on Etsy, and you may even make enough to resupply your yarn collection.

Fabric

Sometimes, you can get a piece of fabric at your local store that someone on the other side of the country cannot. This happens a lot with sports fabrics or certain prints. If you’re a fabric aficionado, then you know what to look for and what people want. An Etsy shop may be the next step on your side hustle path.

Baby Clothing

It’s not just moms that want to dress their little ones in cute clothing; it’s also grandmas, aunties, uncles, cousins, and more. People are always looking for cute and original clothing to give their favorite newborn, and they often turn to Etsy to find it.

Posters

This option can also fall into the vintage category. Be on the lookout for classic movie posters, posters from rock bands, and more. Everyone has their own personality, and they look on Etsy for something that speaks to them. Build your shop around your favorites, and you’re sure to find like-minded customers who come back again and again.

Planners and Calendars

Planners and calendars for the year to come are a wonderful place to start if you’re looking for an Etsy business.

Planner Stickers

Speaking of planners, there’s nothing that motivates some people better than a sticker. Planner stickers are a great niche, especially if you can create inspirational and motivating ones.

Whether you supply your shops with heartwarming ornaments or ones that make you laugh, your stock is sure to speak to Etsy shoppers around the world.

Custom Clothing

People like showing off their originality, whether for themselves, their family, or their group party. Consider offering a cute, customized shirt design for a kid’s birthday party or shirts for a bridal shower. Once you learn the ropes, custom clothing can be a terrific way to make money on Etsy.

Embroidery Patches

Gemma at This Work From Home Life says she’s spotted embroidery patches several times on Craftcount’s top 200 Etsy shop list. If you like expressing your style through images, this shop could be for you.

If you’re handy with those knitting needles and you’re always coming up with your own designs, why not share them with the rest of the world? Knitters are always looking for new projects. Why can’t yours be their next work of art?

Personalized Cards

One of the biggest sellers on Etsy is personalized items, especially personalized cards. Add creative wedding invitations, birthday invitations, or personalized stationery to your new Etsy shop.

VSCO and Aesthetic Stickers

People love to show off their personalities with stickers on their water bottles or the back of their laptops. If you have an eye for cute, hip, or stylish, consider opening your own VSCO and Aesthetic sticker shop. Why make people go to the fair to get a cute caricature? If you’re skilled with a pen or paintbrush and have an eye for physical features, a caricature shop might be right up your alley.

eBooks

Recipe books and How-To books sell well on Etsy. The Pay at Home Parent also suggests books with inspirational quotes or short stories to boost your side hustle store.

Sewing Patterns

Much like knitters, sewers are always looking for new projects to tackle. Share your latest quilt design or wall hanging with the rest of the world.

Quilting Skills

As The Pay at Home Parent explained before, there are some skills in high demand no matter where you go, including quilting. Many Etsy sellers offer up their quilting skills to make custom items like T-shirt quilts.

Sugar Scrubs

Much like bath bombs, sugar scrubs are top sellers on Etsy. That’s because you can offer a variety of scents and colors that make great gifts. If bath time is your jam, then sugar scrubs may be the store you’re looking for.

Garden Starter Kits

Whether it’s a springtime activity for the kids or the early starts of a vegetable garden, a garden starter kit can lead to a fun and earth-friendly store on Etsy.

Handmade Soap

When it comes to handmade soap, there are a lot of benefits. Profitable Ventures writes, “[Handmade soaps] are organic, healthier, and simpler alternatives to traditional soaps. Because they are made from natural ingredients, the net profit is great. They sell fast and easy, which means the profit and longevity are both high.”

Air Pod Cases

With the growth of the wireless earbud industry, people need something to protect their earbuds and their earbud cases. Air pod sales are skyrocketing, so start helping people accessorize.

Face Masks

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, one of the top searches in August 2020 was face masks. Home self-care has grown, especially in the time of COVID.

Enamel Pins

According to Typically Topical, enamel pins remain popular with Millennials and Generation Z. You can design your own pin and work with a manufacturer, or you can find someone to create for you.

Customized Door Mats

Home sweet home is even sweeter when you greet people with a customized doormat. Outsource the creation of these mats and then drop ship them to buyers. All you need to do is create the design.

Gift Wrap

If you’re more of a digital artist, then creating your own gift wrap may be the way to go. You can be as intricate or as simple as you like. Print it yourself and then ship it, or you can offer your design as a digital download.

Resin Trays and Coasters

Beginner crafters may have found their niche with resin. “Resin is an easy to work with material that beginners can use to make all sorts of items: coasters, trays, jewelry. The list is endless. With a little patience and an eye for simple design, you can make and sell these crafts for anywhere between $15-$100+, depending on the product,” writes Typically Topical.

Keychains

Even with the invention of key fobs and keypad door locks, keys are still a must-have in everyday life. That’s why keychains are still in style.

Magnets

Whether they’re customized, handmade, or something else, magnets are always in demand.

Wooden Toys

As the blog Hear Me Folks points out, wooden toys are a big hit with grandparents because “…they play a big role in kid’s development compared to digital toys that are never too engaging.”

Handmade Purses and Bags

People want to be unique, and Etsy offers them a spot to do just that. Handmade purses and bags are top sellers on Etsy because shoppers can find one that fits their style without worrying about seeing someone else out there with the same bag.

Found in Nature

In the Fall of 2021, natural home décor elements ruled the site. According to Etsy’s Marketplace Insights, “Even as some people return to gathering indoors, expect to see outdoor gatherings continue, and for shoppers to keep bringing soothing elements of the outdoors into their homes.”

Phone Cases

You spend all that money on your phone; you might as well protect it. Customized phone cases sell well on Etsy. Come up with a few cute designs, and then find a drop shipper to help you fulfill your orders.

That’s when you put together a collection of similar items in a nice box that someone can give for a birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or some other special occasion. If you have a knack for pretty gift wrapping and gift-giving, this may be a good Etsy shop for you.

Both “tapestry” and “wall decor” are top Etsy searches among male shoppers,” writes Etsy.

Craft Kits for Men

Whether it’s home improvement or woodworking, Etsy sees an increase in men searching for crafting kits. “We’ve noticed more male shoppers coming to Etsy for DIY materials and projects, ranging from creative pastimes to home improvement tasks. This suggestion comes from Like a Bubbling Brook, who says, “Melting crayons and forming them into new shapes isn’t really that hard. These are a cute gift idea to make and sell on Etsy!”

Storage Solutions

You can always find a way to be more organized. Niche Solutions suggests capitalizing on this by creating a shop with storage solutions. “There is a large market for storage solutions on Etsy. These can be very niche storage products like a personalized wooden watch box, or something more generic like an essential oil shelf,” writes Niche Solutions.

Rocks

I’m not talking about any old rocks. Crystals, polished rocks, and the like sell well on Etsy.
