Want to know how to remove the dog smell from your house? If you’re anything like me, you love your dog but you hate the smell your dog leaves behind. No matter how much you wash him and brush his teeth, there’s always a very slight dog odor. But instead of getting rid of your best friend (unthinkable, I know) , consider these alternatives.

1. An Enzymatic Cleaner

Landlordology suggest using an enzymatic cleaner to get rid of the smell. Nature’s Miracle is a popular brand and can be found at any pet store and some local grocery chains.
Buy this product on Amazon here.

2. Buy a Black Light

Do this at your own risk, but K9 of Mine suggests getting a black light to find those problem areas where your dog may have had an accident you just didn’t find in time.

3. Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar

PetMD suggests a quick home remedy of apple cider vinegar and baking soda. According to the site, it’s going to work just as well as any cleaner you buy in the store.

4. Baking Soda

If you’re not into using a wet alternative, just go with the baking soda. According to Wikihow, baking soda is a natural odor eliminator, so sprinkle it on affected areas and then vacuum up about 30 minutes later.

5. Vacuum Everywhere

According to I Sold My House, nothing does the job better than a thorough vacuuming job. Get to work and get that pet dander out of the carpet and the cracks and crevices in your home.

6. Steam Clean

When vacuuming doesn’t work, you need to take it up a notch and steam clean.

7. Attack the Problem Where it Sleeps…Literally

Realtor.com points out that dog bed could be the true root of the problem. Cleaning the dog bed once a week can go a long way to fighting the smell.

8. Air purifier

When all else fails, clean the air. I Heart Dogs points out that an air purifier is the best way to cut down on allergies and the pet odor in the air.

9. Wash the Dog

This one seems pretty obvious, but we’re not going for something secretive here. Get Rid of Things suggest go to the source and wash the dog. Then work out from there. You can find organic shampoo here on Etsy.

10. Bathing Wipes

It’s impossible to wash your dog as frequently as he starts to smell so I Heart Dogs suggests you get your hands on some pet refreshing wipes, that way you can keep your dog smelling fresh between baths.

11. Air out the House

In the spring when it’s not too hot, or in the summer mornings before it gets hot, open up the windows and air out the house. Splash and Dash for Dogs says it’s a great way to get rid of that smell naturally.

12. Wipe Off Paws at Door

Don’t let your four legged family members track in the smell. Broken Bow Police says make sure you wipe your dog’s paws at the door.
You can get a cute doormat here on Etsy. Or you can get an embroidered towel here on Etsy, just to make sure you don’t get the dog’s towel confused with anyone elses.

13. Brush Those Teeth

Don’t forget some of that smell comes from your dog’s mouth, especially as they get older. The Cheat Sheet reminds you to brush your dog’s teeth regularly.
