make money on pinterest become a pinterest virtual assistant VA or pinterest manager a great side hustle or work from home job

Pinterest is one of the most popular social networking sites in the world. In fact, according to Pew Research, it’s the fourth most used social media platform in the world. Hoot Suite says approximately 250 million people worldwide use Pinterest every month and more than 77 million of those people live in America.

And that means Pinterest isn’t a social media platform for people or businesses to ignore. If you’re a Pinterest fan, you probably already know this. But did you know it’s possible to make money off of Pinterest as well?

How to Make Money on Pinterest

Pinterest will not pay you to pin things. That’s not the way the site works. However, it’s still possible to get paid by other people for posting on Pinterest.

Affiliate Marketing

One of the most common ways to make money on Pinterest is to become what’s called an affiliate marketer. When you sign up as an affiliate marketer of a site like Amazon (through the Amazon Sellers Account) or Etsy, you can include their affiliate links in your Pinterest posts.

You make money through clicks and sales. When a Pinterest user clicks on the post, they’re taken to a shopping page. If the Pinterest user makes a purchase, then the affiliate marketer will be paid a fraction of the purchase price.

If you make enough sales, then you start to see real spikes in your income.

Company Sponsorship

The other way Pinterest users make money is through sponsorships. If a Pinterest user builds up a large enough following, companies may be willing to pay for posting about their products.

This is similar to becoming an Influencer on Instagram. I wrote a whole post about Instagram Influencers earlier this year; you can read it here.

Usually when you get a company sponsorship, the company is paying you a flat rate to promote their products in a specific number of posts.

Pinterest Virtual Assistant (VA)

You can also become a Pinterest Virtual Assistant, also known as a Pinterest VA.

What is a Pinterest Virtual Assistant?

The other two are pretty self-explanatory, so let’s talk about a Pinterest Virtual Assistant. A Pinterest Virtual Assistant or Pinterest VA is a person that helps companies manage, maintain, and grow their presence on Pinterest. You are getting paid to put pins on a company’s Pinterest account.

How to Become a Pinterest VA

All that sounds great in theory, but the next question is how do you do it?

Educate Yourself

The very first thing you need to do to become a Pinterest Virtual Assistant is educate yourself. You need to learn about Pinterest, including posting practices, the best images to use, how to share the pins outside of Pinterest, how to optimize your board, and how to stay active on the platform.

You need to have a solid understanding of Pinterest before you try to sell yourself as a professional Pinterest Virtual Assistant to businesses.

Learn How to Create Awesome Pins

After you’ve learned about the platform, you’re ready to take the next step and learn how to create awesome pins to share on Pinterest. DO NOT take pins from other people and pass them off as your own. At the very least, it’s not nice. At the most, it’s considered copyright infringement.

You can use a website like Canva to create unique pins fairly easily. Canva offers you templates to get you started. It also gives you the ability to change fonts, colors and has a stock collection of photos to help you out. And best of all, the base account on Canva is free.

Pinterest Virtual Assistant Jobs

Those are the basics. Once you’ve mastered them, you can start looking for Pinterest VA jobs.

A site like Upwork has Pinterest VA jobs posted all the time, while Fiverr is a great place to market your Pinterest VA skills. If you’re looking for more details about either of the sites, check out the post I wrote comparing the two freelance sites here.

The key thing you want to remember about Upwork and Fiverr is that the freelancing sites operate completely differently. On Upwork, you will browse postings and apply to ones that fit your skills. On Fiverr, you will post your skills and a price for those skills and people will hire you to complete their jobs.

Become a Pinterest Manager

Eventually, you’ll find that the ability to create awesome Pinterest pins will only grow your business so far. You will want to take it to another level. That’s when you get into the account management side of things.

A Pinterest Manager knows all the things that a Pinterest VA does, but also a number of other Pinterest skills. A Pinterest Manager knows how to create and switch Pinterest accounts to business accounts. A manager also knows how grow followers for an account, create a schedule for a Pinterest account, design not just pins, but an entire brand and run Promoted Pin campaigns.

Pinterest Managers don’t just have the skills to post on Pinterest, they also have the ability to manage and grow entire Pinterest accounts.

Become a Pinterest VA Course

Some of the skills described above will take a lot of time to learn if all you’re doing is Googling questions and then reading the answers. That’s why a Pinterest VA course can be the quickest, most efficient way to learn all the skills you need to not just be a Pinterest VA, but also a Pinterest Manager.

There are a number of Pinterest VA courses out there to choose from, but for my money I prefer this one.

What You’ll Learn in the Pinterest VA Course

The Pinterest VA Course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to be a successful Pinterest VA and Manager. Through the five modules of the course, you’ll learn the following:

  • The different roles of the Pinterest Virtual Assistant and Pinterest Manager;
  • Terminology used within Pinterest;
  • What to charge clients and when to raise your rates;
  • How to find and land clients including pitch templates;
  • How to begin and grow the relationship with your clients;
  • How to grow your Pinterest VA clientele and eventually advance into becoming a Pinterest Manager.

In other words, the course will teach you everything you need to know to start and grow your Pinterest VA business and even help you reach the Pinterest Manager level fairly quickly.

Pinterest VA Course Review

If you’ve read to this point, you’re probably weighing whether it’s worth it to purchase a Pinterest VA course or not. Here are some things to think about as you make a decision.

The Time Savings

I’m the kind of person that loves to save a buck, but also understands that time is money. I’m going to weigh those two options when I consider whether this Pinterest VA course is worth my time and money.

On the one hand, I can save a bunch of money if I teach myself Pinterest. Google is a great tool and it’s free. I can do it all myself through trial and error. Admittedly, I might miss a few jobs because I’m overcharging and snag a few jobs that take longer than I expected because I’m undercharging. But eventually, I’ll find my way and within three to four months I should be able to have a viable side hustle as a Pinterest VA. If I want to become a Pinterest Manager, I’ll have to do some more research.

On the other hand, I can take the Pinterest VA course and spend a week just learning the ins and outs of the Pinterest platform and how to create a viable business. After that week, I can get started with my side hustle and have all the tools I need to become a Pinterest Manager when the time comes.

Like I said, time is money and the three months I just saved is a big checkmark in the plus column.

The Coursework

This is the kind of course that’s good if you’re a self-motivated learner and I suspect if you’re reading this blog post then you are. The Pinterest VA Course provides you with all the tools you need to become a Pinterest VA/Manager and develop a quality side hustle, but you’re going to get out of it what you put into it.

If you’re not willing to take the time to study or if you’re not willing to put in the work required to get the business started, then it’s likely that this course isn’t for you.

However, if you don’t mind watching online videos, practicing, and then applying what you’ve learned to a real-life business, then you’ll do okay.

The Price

I would say one challenge of the course is the price. It is a fairly large chunk of money to be paying upfront. But like I said before, if you’re spending three months teaching yourself how to do it, at some point in time you have to decide which is worth more, your time or your money.

The Return on Investment (ROI)

If you put the work into it, you’re likely to recoup the amount of money that you paid for the course. Many of the users say they made their money back within a year, some even said it took just a few months.

The ROI is going to depend on how much work you want to do per week and how hard you’re hustling to get jobs.

However, if you’re committed enough to take a course, then you’re committed enough to get your money back through hard work.

Side comment from Millennial Boss: I’ve known Kristen Larsen, creator of the Become a PVA course for years, and she is AMAZING!  As a fellow online business owner, I am just in awe of her organization, her talent for teaching, and her business success. She has personally helped me grow my business to a six figure business. I can only imagine what she is able to accomplish for the students in her course.
