BACKYARD-DIY
DIY Backyard Project Ideas

We’ll be spending a lot more time at home this summer so might as well make it look nice and feel cozy! On my list of backyard projects are twinkly lights around the patio, better landscaping around the side of the house, and a fire pit so we can spend more nights outside. I’d absolutely love a pergola but I don’t think we’ll be able to fit that in this year.

Looking for creative DIY backyard ideas too? There’s always something that needs to be done in the backyard to spiff it up but knowing what to do and how is always tough to figure out. Here are a few good ideas to use as a jumping off point.

13 DIY Ideas for the backyard

1. Create a Stone Path

Family Handyman shows you how to create your own stone path to give your garden an extra special look.

2. Build Your Own Trellis

A trellis is a great way to add a little height to your garden or give your string beans a place to grow. Remove and Replace shows you how to create a simple cedar trellis.

3. Backyard Pergola

A backyard pergola is a fabulous way to enjoy a day outside without sitting in the hot, hot sun. That’s What Che Said tells you how to make your backyard a relaxing destination.

4. Projector Screen

By adding a projector screen, you can watch movies in your very own outdoor theater. Here is a our DIY post if you want to make a backyard theater of your own.

5. In-Ground Fire Pit

Sometimes it’s nice to sit by the fire and relax on those summer nights. Goods Home Design has all the information you need to add a fire pit to your backyard.

DIY Backyard Patio Ideas

6. Patio Table with Inlaid Ice Chests

This project is great for the DIYer that’s a little more seasoned than most. Remodelaholic shows you how to make this patio table that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.

7. Backyard Waterfall and Pond

If you’re looking for a serene place to call your own, think about adding a backyard waterfall and pond. Oh My Creative has step-by-step instructions on how to make it happen.

8. Planter and Hose Holder

This one is both cute and serviceable at the same time. DIY Candy has instructions on how to create this planter and garden hose holder.

DIY Backyard Patio Ideas

9. Lamppost Planters

A few wine barrels and some 4×4’s can make this backyard patio a reality. Blogger, I Should Be Mopping the Floor even got her kids to help make it happen.

10. Treeless Tree House

If you have young kids then this is a great DIY project. Make them a treeless tree house that they can play in when they’re little and then use as a haven when they’re a little older. Made with Happy explains.

11. Reclaimed Wood Planter Boxes

Planter boxes are great, but they can also be extremely boring to look at. Stuff Seth Makes shows you how to liven things up with these reclaimed wood planter boxes. Not only are they nice to look at, but they’re also good for the environment.

12. Pallet Backyard Bench

Speaking of reclaimed wood, this backyard bench can be easily made with an old pallet. The R.K. Black blog shows you how it’s done.

13. Backyard Potting Station

If you’re an avid gardener, then a potting station may be just what you need. Build Something has instructions on how to build your own potting station, so you don’t hurt your back bending over your garden all the time.

And my ultimate backyard idea – a she shed!

My absolute dream backyard idea is actually a she shed where I can make my own Etsy projects and have girls night with wine. My husband was originally on board as long as I could make space for him to work on his projects and we were thinking of getting a prefab one from home depot but holding off until next summer!
